Monday, July 31, 2006 - 10:41 AM

The two members of our congregation recently returned from the search for Jon. We thank God for their safe return home. They describe the beauty, the challenge of the climb, and rugged terrain of those mountains and could see why Jon loved the Sawtooth's.

There has been more talk of another group of our members setting out to search again. We will report on their plans, please watch for updates.

The family of Jon Francis has posted a web site at http://www.jonfrancis.org/ The site give statements from the family, includes updates, and comprehensive information about the search effort.

Ascension Lutheran Church, continues to collect donations to assist the family with their private search efforts. There are two ways to donate funds:

Make checks payable to Ascension Lutheran Church (note "Jon Francis Search Fund" in the memo section), or, deposit checks directly to Zion's Bank - made payable to "The Jon Francis Search Fund."

Our community continues to mourn the absence of Jon. This statement appears in our August 2006 Newsletter.

An Outpouring of Love
Our community deeply grieves the loss of Jon in the Sawtooth Mountains of Idaho. Our comfort comes in knowing that wherever Jon is, our God is with him. We offer thanksgiving for the beautiful witness of Christ that Jon shared with us. We miss him terribly. We continue to lift Jon, and his family, to our God in prayer.

Monday, July 24, 2006 - 7:00 PM

Two members of our congregation have arrived at Redfish Lake. They report that the family of Jon Francis have moved out from the base camp however, some continue to search. The two members of our congregation are setting a base camp at the mountain and will pack in and search until Wednesday.

We will not have updates until we resume cell phone contact.

Sunday, July 23, 2006

Our members who have been helping with the search that is based at Redfish Lake report the following for today:

The search for Jon has scaled back from a broad and wide-sweep search, to a more focused, in-depth area search. There is still no news.

All of the members of Ascension who went up to Idaho to assist with the search effort, upon hearing that Jon was missing, have returned home safely Sunday evening.

We thank God for their safe return, and for the way these members of our church family represented our entire body of Christ by being there.

Two more members of our church left Sunday afternoon, to help with the in-depth, back country searching. They plan to return back to Ogden on
Wednesday. Their help will be in the form of backpacking into remote areas and we do not anticipate being able to communicate due to a lack of cell phone coverage.

Please keep these two additional members in your prayers. Pray for their protection and safety while they are searching. Also please pray our God would keep their families in His loving care as they await news of a safe return of their loved ones.

Please continue to lift the Jon Francis family up in prayer as they continue to hope for news from the searchers.

Thank you to all who are praying, and for those who attended the prayer vigils for Jon. Thank you too, for the outpouring of love for Jon, calls of concern, and offers of help.
We will continue to update this web site as information is made known to us.
July 22, 12:00 pm (noon)
Fresh help in the form of volunteers have arrived to help at the base camp
this morning. Many who have arrived are friends of Jon's from Minnesota who have come to assist with the search.

The family is not giving up the search to bring Jon off the mountain. Jon's brother in law is continuing to coordinate the volunteer search. The helicopter used in yesterday afternoon's search only found two backpackers and a tent on the mountain. The entire shoreline of Redfish Lake has been searched. The family feels confident that the entire top of the mountain has been thoroughly searched.

Efforts continue along other routes descending from the top of the mountain toward the lake. Experienced, technical climbers and hikers continue being used to search the rough and rugged terrain. Those wishing to offer search assistance may report to the Redfish Lake Lodge and will be directed to the picnic table where the family is set up and coordinating efforts. It is important to note that camp sites and lodging are difficult to find in the area, however, as some return from the search, additional openings may occur.

Donations to help the family with the costs of funding the private aspects of the search continue to be collected. Those wishing to make donations may write checks payable to Ascension Lutheran Church (Jon Francis search fund in memo section) or by making checks payable to an account established at Zion Bank under the account name "The Jon Francis Search Fund."

Please continue to pray for Jon, his recovery, his family, the safety of the searchers, Jon's friends and the youth of Ascension Lutheran Church.

A Prayer Vigil for Jon will be held this evening (Saturday July 22, 2006) at Ascension Lutheran Church at 7:00 p.m.

July 21, 5:10 p.m.

Boise Idaho television station KTVB ( http://www.ktvb.com/ ) has a reporter stationed at Redfish Lake at the search center (base).  They have been reporting all the latest developments in the search for Jon.

July 21, 11:00 a.m.

Members of Ascension Lutheran Church are helping with the search effort based at Redfish Lake.  They report that infrared planes have flown last night and planes are continuing to fly search missions this morning until noon.  Infrared helicopters will continue this afternoon.  There are about 40 volunteers skilled in hiking and climbing in rugged terrain, which are being used in the systematic search. Many are asking the church how they may help.  The greatest assistance we can offer the Jon Francis Family is in the form of donations to assist them in their privately funded portions of the search.  We will place collection baskets at the Prayer Vigil (Saturday, July 22nd at 7:00 p.m.) and at Sunday Morning Worship services at 8:30 & 11:00 a.m. at Ascension Lutheran Church – 1105 N. Washington Blvd. on the North Ogden side of town. All proceeds will go directly to the Francis Family.

Checks may be made payable to:

Ascension Lutheran Church (notate Jon Francis name in the memo section).

An account is also being opened through Zion’s Bank.  Watch for updates.
